WPC decking quotations are difficult to compare when they are based only on a photograph or a request for “one container.” Board profile, dimensions, surface, installation system, coverage and project location all affect the final scope.
A clearer enquiry helps suppliers check the right product family and identify the accessories, packing and freight information that still require confirmation.
1. Describe the application
Explain whether the decking is for a private terrace, hospitality space, boardwalk, poolside area or another outdoor setting. State whether the site is exposed to strong sun, high moisture, salt air, freeze–thaw conditions or heavy pedestrian use. These details guide the questions that need to be answered; they do not replace project engineering or local compliance review.
2. Select the profile type
Confirm whether the project is considering a hollow-core or solid profile and whether the board is reversible. Profile geometry affects weight, fastening, span review and the visual treatment of exposed ends. Request an actual cross-section drawing for the quoted board instead of relying on a generic category image.
3. Provide board dimensions and layout
List the preferred board width, thickness and length, together with the deck area and layout direction. If the project includes steps, borders, curves, hatches or changes in level, attach a plan or take-off. Coverage should be calculated from the selected board and gap rather than from nominal area alone.
4. Define surface and colour expectations
State whether you prefer fine grooves, wide grooves, embossed wood grain or another surface. Colour names can vary between product ranges, so request current colour references and approve a sample when appearance is important. Ask how colour may change after outdoor exposure and what installation practices are recommended for the chosen product.
5. Clarify the supporting and fastening system
Identify the substrate and proposed joist or pedestal system. Ask which clips, screws, starter pieces, edge trims and end treatments are compatible with the exact board. Support spacing and fastening must follow the approved product instructions and project conditions.
6. Separate boards from accessories
A complete quotation may need decking boards, joists, clips, screws, starter clips, fascia or edge boards and waste allowance. List which items are required and which will be sourced locally. This prevents a low board-only price from being compared with a complete system quotation.
7. Include quantity, destination and timing
Provide the estimated area, preferred board lengths, destination and required delivery window. Packing, gross weight, volume, factory, origin port and route must be confirmed for the actual order; they should not be treated as fixed catalogue values.
