Choose by drainage or access function
Buyers often use “drain cover” broadly. For accurate selection, distinguish the product format before comparing models:
- Solid manhole or access cover: confirm the clear opening, frame interface, sealing or security requirement, opening method and maintenance access.
- Open drainage grate: confirm the required inlet function, opening geometry, debris and maintenance conditions, and safe interface with the surrounding surface.
- Cover-and-frame assembly: quote and approve the matched assembly rather than assuming a cover will fit an existing frame.
Confirm before comparing products
- Application and installation zone: pedestrian area, verge, car park, carriageway, industrial area or another project-defined location.
- Product identity: exact material, model, clear opening, overall frame dimensions, cover or grating format, seating, retention and opening method.
- Performance evidence: required class, referenced standard and material-specific part, test report or declaration for the exact model, and the project acceptance criteria.
- Operation: drainage inlet area or sealed access requirement, slip and noise considerations, safe handling, maintenance frequency and access equipment.
- Installation interface: supporting chamber, frame bearing, bedding, fixing, finished level, adjacent surfacing and responsibility for site installation.
Evidence boundary. EN 124-1 provides the general framework and is used with the relevant material-specific part; cast-iron products are addressed by EN 124-2. A photo, cast marking or product name does not by itself prove project compliance. Request current model-specific drawings, declarations and test documents, and follow the destination authority and project specification.
